It turns the historic Grand Harbour into a three-night alfresco celebration of beer, food and music, with local and international brews, Bavarian-inspired games and live performances set against Valletta's Baroque skyline.

It is an outdoor, quayside affair, so a light jacket is sensible for October evenings. There is no dress code. No start time is published on either the calendar PDF or the events listing.

Prices are not published on the official calendar. Check vallettawaterfront.com/events nearer the time; in past years entry to the promenade has been free with drinks and food paid at the stands.

• Getting there: From City Gate, walk down through the Upper Barrakka Gardens and take the Barrakka Lift to Lascaris Wharf, then follow the waterfront promenade west for about 10 minutes. Roughly 20 minutes door to door from Republic Street; the return climb is steep, so use the lift or a taxi late at night.
